PVS White Corn for Food: Farmers’ Preference From Field to Plate
Participatory varietal selection (PVS), that was used in this research, is an approach that involves selection of released and pre-released white corn varieties in farmers’ fields, managed by both researchers and farmers, to understand farmers’ preferences in the adoption of varieties. Farmers were involved in the process from the planning to the final selection stage. Different varieties of improved open-pollinated white corn were evaluated through the use of preference analysis (PA) based on agronomic traits, and sensory evaluation (SE) based on cooking and eating qualities, in selected municipalities of Isabela, Quezon, Bohol, and North Cotabato provinces in the Philippines.
